More help given to employers to hire local professionals, managers and executives

The same article printed on the Business Times was being introduced again on the recent Straits Times newspaper.

It was about the announcement by Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say that more help including up to 40% wage support, will be given to employers to hire Singaporean PMEs (Professionals, Managers and Executives).

Being managed by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA), the wage support is amined at encouraging employers to hire mature workers that have been jobless for at least 6 months.

How it works:

- A subsidy of 40% of monthly gross pay for the first 6 months for PMEs aged 50 and above. (Capped at S$2,800 monthly). After the first 6 months, the sibsidy will be reduced to 20% capped at S$1,400 monthly.

- A subsidy of 20% of monthly gross pay for the first 6 months for PMEs aged 40 to 50. (Capped at S$1,400 monthly). After the first 6 months, the sibsidy will be reduced to 10% capped at S$700 monthly.

"Over these 12 months, the employer and worker could get to know each other and see if they meet each other's needs", says Mr Lim.

By the first quarter of 2016, the Ministry of Manpower is planning to set up the Employment Claims Tribunal where PMEs can turn and settle any employment claims and disputes.
